Artist Bio

Contemporary and Dance Education Professor Emeritus Marilyn Berrett is passionate about guiding students of all ages to discover, create, and express their unique ideas through dance. She loves teaching creative and or cultural dance, integrating dance with other curricula, and collaborating on original projects. Marilyn credits her early dance training with Virginia Tanner as a key influence on her philosophy and work.

She is a dance educator and artist who teaches all age and ability levels, pre-K through university through multi-age communities. Learners in her classes will increase in dance knowledge, skill, and expression as they engage in personally meaningful movement experiences.

Marilyn was a dance faculty member at Brigham Young University from 1985 – 2018, where she received numerous teaching, choreography, and mentoring awards and founded BYU Kinnect, an outreach student company that presents interactive dance assemblies and workshops to over 12,000 children annually. She has an elementary teaching certification, teaches and presents throughout the world, and is a consulting member of dance and the Child international (daCi), and the BYU Arts Partnership. She is available for short- and long-term residencies, teacher training, extended projects, collaborations with other artists.
