Artist Bio
Jim McGee is an accomplished artist and dedicated educator with over 20 years of experience in the arts and teaching fields. Holding a BFA in Illustration from the University of the Arts and an MFA in Painting from the University of Utah, Jim has developed a diverse and rich portfolio that spans various mediums including drawing, painting, sculpture and ceramics.
In the classroom, Jim brings a passion for fostering creativity and critical thinking in students. With a teaching philosophy that “Art is for everyone! Everyone is an artist!” Jim believes that anyone can (and should) learn to draw and paint. He specializes in building strong foundational skills in line, shape, form, value, color, texture and space in a variety of drawing and painting media, ie. colored pencils, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic and oil paint. Whether you are just a beginner or an experienced artist, McGee is an expert at meeting students where they’re at in terms of their artistic skill set. Jim has inspired countless students to pursue their own artistic journeys. He has taught at the University of Utah, Juan Diego Catholic High School, Alta High School, and Workshop SLC, where he has developed and implemented curriculum that blends traditional techniques with contemporary practices.
Jim is also committed to ongoing professional development, regularly participating in workshops and seminars to stay at the forefront of the art world and educational methodologies. Outside of teaching, Jim is actively involved in community projects and professional organizations, further enriching his perspective and contributions to the arts community.
