Professional Development

Arts education offers many connections to resources for professional development offered through universities, school districts, arts companies and organizations of arts professionals. We also highlight links to toolkits, lesson plans, curriculum development and funding to help you strengthen your school arts programs.

To find professional development opportunities happening across the state for educators, access the Art Works for Kids statewide professional development workshops calendar.

Click HERE to access “Arts Education for America’s Students: A Shared Endeavor,” a joint statement that asserts the importance of high-quality arts education. The statement urges public policy leaders to provide a systemic and rigorous arts education for all students by leveraging the expertise and experience of multiple partners, including certified arts educators, certified non-arts educators and community arts providers.

Teaching Artist Roster

The artists on the Teaching Artist Roster represent creative writing,  dance, folk, ethnic and traditional arts,  media arts, music, theatre, storytelling, and visual arts. All artists on this roster have been officially approved by peer panels for artistic and educational excellence, and Utah Arts and Museums’ Board of Directors. Visit the teaching artist page to learn more about how to apply.

Technical Assistance Outreach

Our staff provides technical assistance to schools and organizations interested in applying for grant funding, developing arts education plans for their sites, identifying potential artists, locating resources, and obtaining guidance on how to inform stakeholders about the importance of arts education. Please call 801.979.3651 to schedule an appointment.

Traveling Exhibitions

Traveling exhibitions are a collaborative partnership with Utah museums, colleges, university and community galleries, arts and cultural centers, libraries and schools. These exhibitions tour the state with accompanying educational materials. The exhibitions provide public access to quality visual arts, nurture understanding of diverse art forms and cultures, and promote creativity and encourage cultural activities in local communities. Exhibitions are available to schools, colleges, museums, libraries, and community and cultural centers in Utah.
