Artist Bio
Micah Hirokawa is a devoted music educator and experienced school leader with a strong passion for nurturing the talents of his students and fellow educators. Growing up in the beautiful town of Kaneohe on the island of Oahu, Micah developed a deep connection to music and culture from a young age. With a BA in American Studies focused on ethnomusicology and an M.Ed. in Education Leadership, Micah possesses a strong academic background that informs his teaching philosophy and approach to leadership in the educational field. Micah’s diverse teaching experience spans early childhood, elementary, and secondary education, covering a range of musical subjects such as General Music, Polynesian Music/Ukulele, Band, Choir, and Musical Theater. Please note that his academic subjects taught include college credit in American History and secondary World History.
As a highly acclaimed educator, Micah’s achievements include being a finalist for the Grammy Music Educator Award in 2014 and winning the Grammy Rock Your School Award in 2016. In addition to his accolades, Micah is a sought-after keynote speaker at various prestigious conferences, where he shares his insights on leadership, student engagement, and the power of arts education. Micah’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and celebrating diversity in education is evident in his advocacy for students with learning disabilities and his efforts to create an inclusive learning environment for ALL learners.
Outside of his educational endeavors, Micah is a talented musician proficient in multiple instruments, including the ukulele, guitar, bass, saxophone, trumpet, and percussion. His love for music extends beyond the classroom, as he enjoys performing folk songs from his island home and has taken on lead roles in community theater productions. Despite his numerous performances, Micah remains grounded and deeply honored whenever he has the opportunity to sing our National Anthem, showcasing his respect for his culture and country.
