New Ways of Seeing – Elevating American Sign Language Programming
Keynote speakers Joyce Hom and Nic Annette Miller, co-founders of LoLoLook, will go in-depth on the importance of their nonprofit's mission: to elevate American Sign Language (ASL) programming at cultural institutions. The Deaf and CODA (Child of Deaf Adult) team will shine a spotlight on their community’s experience with museums and their collective involvement working in art, museum education, and access. Their collaboration through a community-based and institutional-based approach to prioritize equitable ASL programs that are Deaf-led result in innovative and impactful programs for ASL-signing individuals and families.
Joyce Hom is an educator and consultant working within access programs at several museums in New York City, and is the Senior ASL Programs Coordinator at The Jewish Museum, the only known museum position for a Deaf individual.
Nic Annette Miller is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in printmaking, design, and language justice advocacy as a multilingual CODA with extensive experience as an access worker, teaching artist, and producer of educational programs with organizations such as The Drawing Center and University of Utah.
