Logos and Usage

The Arts and Museums logo comprises two elements: the logomark, and the logotype.

  • The logomark is a historic symbol of the agency.
  • The logotype has been carefully chosen for its modern, yet refined, highly legible style.
Utah Division of Arts and Museums. Founded in 1899.

Primary Logos

The primary logo has a horizontal format and is the preferred logo in most cases. These two elements are part of a lockup and cannot be altered or rearranged.

The primary logo that includes "Founded in 1899" is an accepted form of our logo, but it has specific size requirements. Please see the logo usage guidelines on this page.

The secondary logo is stacked vertically. Whenever possible, use the primary logo. Use the stacked logo in situations where the primary logo will not fit.

Primary Logo Usage Guidelines

Clear space

It is important to keep the logo clear of any other graphic elements. To regulate this, an exclusion zone has been established. This exclusion zone indicates the closest any other graphic element or message can be positioned in relation to the symbol and type.

Clear space is equivalent to the capital letter M around the entire logo.

Minimum size

The logo must remain legible and consistently executed. To do this, sizing standards have been developed.

The primary logo minimum size is 1.65 inches (42mm) wide. Due to legibility concerns, the primary logo that includes "Founded in 1899" should be used no smaller than 2.73 inches (69.5mm) wide.

The stacked logo minimum size is 1.31 inches (33.3mm) wide. The stacked logo that includes "Founded in 1899" should be used no smaller than 2.05 inches (52mm) wide.

Logo color variants

There are three options: full color with black or white text, solid black, and solid white. The full-color logo should be used whenever possible.

Note: When placing the logo on a colored background or image, ensure sufficient contrast and legibility of the logotype.

Incorrect use

Do not distort, crop, rotate, remove the logomark, recolor, or add shadows or effects to the logo. Additionally, do not place the logo on a busy background or a background that creates low contrast.
