What Can We Apply For?

Folk Arts Apprenticeships support master folk artists to work with an apprentice to share and preserve a traditional skill or art form. Funds up to $5,000. If awarded, all funds will go to the master artist.

What Can We Apply For?
The purpose of the Small Museum Project Grant is to help support primarily small museums by encouraging the use of the best accepted industry practices in the preservation and management of collections, developing quality exhibitions and educational resources, and fostering public access to museums. Maximum request amount is $2,500.

Who Can Apply?

Utah-based Museums that:
- have been open to the public for at least one year prior to application
- have completed a final report for any previously received funds from Utah Arts & Museums
- have not applied for General Operating Support funding in the most recent round (FY24/FY25) or the FY24 Arts & Museums Project grant.

Arts & Museums Project Grants

The Arts & Museums Project Grant is currently being evaluated in light of changes from the legislature for government grants. Please sign up for the Arts Muse Newsletter to receive updates about our grants program. The next project grants will fund projects occurring in FY25. At this point, it appears that we will have a significant delay, meaning that we will be unable to fund any projects occurring in the summer of 2024.

What Can We Apply For?
This third year of the Creative Aging Pilot grant will support the artists and organizations who have participated in the training sponsored by UA&M, taught by Lifetime Arts*. Please see guidelines for all details.

Who Can Apply?

IDEAL: Organization/artist that has attended one of the three-day training workshops by Lifetime Arts, and works with an organization/artist who has also attended the training*
Other optional configurations:
- Organizations that have attended the Lifetime Arts training, but choose to work with an artist that has not attended the Lifetime Arts training*
- An artist who has attended the Lifetime Arts training and plans to work with an organization that has not attended the Lifetime Arts training*
- An artist who attended the Lifetime Arts training and runs a program of their own.*
UA&M’s preference is to fund an organization. If there is a compelling reason for an individual artist to sponsor a class without a partner organization, please contact us for directions about how to complete the application.
Nonprofit, government agencies, and for-profit businesses may apply. Individual artists may only apply with pre-approval.

FY24 Artist Career Advancement Opportunity Guidelines

What Can We Apply For?

Creation/design of marketing materials (professional photos, website, videos, recordings, etc. for publicity and marketing)
Expenses associated with an exceptional learning environment such as a residency or intensive study with a recognized master/mentor. (Degree-bearing programs are not eligible)
Framing, freight, shipping, or materials costs for gallery exhibitions
Conference registration fees and/or associated travel costs
Vendor license fees for professional artistic opportunities

What Can We Apply For?

Utah Arts & Museums recognizes the important role of Utah’s performing arts presenters in connecting artists with audiences and communities. OnStage in Utah provides presenters with funding to support a public performance, as well as a separate community outreach activity by in-state or out-of-state performing artists.

Details:

OnStage in Utah is offered to organizations with annual revenue of less than $500,000.
Funding is competitive and is not based on previous organizational funding levels.
Request Range: Up to 50% of performing artist fee for performance and community outreach activity, with a maximum amount of $2,000 per presenter per year.
Deadline: Monday, July 10, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. MST - Funding Timeframe: September 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024 (no projects funded prior to Sept. 1st)

What Is the Partnership Grant?
The purpose of Office Partnership Grants is to leverage funding to provide training, networking, centralized marketing, professional development, technical assistance, model programs, or unique educational resources. By creating strategic partnerships with Utah-based nonprofit organizations that have complementary missions and resources, Utah Arts & Museums (UA&M) can more efficiently and effectively provide services for Utahns.

Because these grants are for partnerships, the grant application must be crafted and executed in direct partnership with a Utah Division of Arts & Museums staff member and must contain mutually agreed upon goals and measurements. Please refer to the following eligibility policies for more information.

Educational Institution Eligibility. K-12, universities, colleges, and other educational institutions are subject to the following restrictions:

Programming for which grant funding is sought must be open to the general public and easily accessible. The public (meaning those outside the institution) must compose a significant percentage of those involved in or served by the activities.
Academic awards and/or work, including fellowships, scholarships, or tuition fees for student work, are not allowed.
Events and services funded by the grant must be supplementary to regular curriculum. Grant funds cannot be used to support projects involving classes or workshops for which college credit is given.
Overhead expenses must follow the federal funding guidelines set by the Federal Office of Management and Budget.
Institutions are limited to no more than one grant to the same academic department in any given fiscal year.

Legislative Pass-Through/Direct Line-Item Funding. The following criteria apply to organizations receiving pass-through or direct line-item funding (also known as legislative appropriations).

Organizations that receive ongoing legislative pass-through funding for general operating support are not eligible for UA&M grant funding.
POPS, iSEE, and State Museum Funding are not considered pass-through funding that is a duplication of funding by UA&M grants. Organizations receiving this type of funding may also apply for UA&M grants.
Organizations that receive one-time legislative pass-through funding for operating expenses shall not receive UA&M funding in the same year they receive legislative pass-through.
Grant requests from organizations that receive one-time pass-through funding for a specific project may be subject to review for eligibility by the Executive Committee of the Utah Arts Advisory Board or Utah Museum Services Advisory Board.
Funds allocated by line-item pass-through from the legislature and UA&M competitive grants shall not be for similar activities.
Organizations that receive a pass-through allocation from a department other than Culture and Community Engagement (formerly DHA) may be subject to review by the Executive Committee of the Utah Arts Advisory Board or Utah Museum Services Advisory Board if the activities seem similar to a grant application in the same year as the allocation.
Organizations that receive pass-through funding for capital projects are eligible for UA&M funding.

All of our grants are first reviewed for eligibility and requirements by the grants staff. All eligible applications are then reviewed by a panel of community members assigned to each grant category. These panels score and comment on all applications and make funding recommendations. These recommendations are then forwarded to the full Utah Arts board or Office of Museum Services board who must approve all grant amounts before they can be awarded. Utah Division of Arts & Museums staff are not allowed to score, comment, or make funding recommendations for any applicant. All panel review members are required to sign a conflict of interest policy and must recuse themselves from discussion and scoring of any application they may have a conflict with.
