Work by Susan Beck and Bonnie Susec
MARCH 8 – MAY 3, 2019
The artists see collaboration as a cooperative partnership, working together to produce or create something new, something they started doing forty years ago. Early on in their friendship, they realized they both enjoy experimenting with the gap between what is real and what seems to be. “Often our work falls into chaos and complications, but there is nothing we like more than battling our way through to the beauty and order within. This exchange can be startling and provocative as images disappear and new ones appear or are reformed in unexpected and surprising ways,” Susec says of the process.
For this exhibition, they began their collaborations by each starting a piece and then passing back and forth until they were satisfied with the result. As a counterpoint to these works, there are also pieces included which were created individually by each artist. The viewer is invited to become a participant in the process by looking for the differences and similarities found in and out of the collaborations.
