KEYNOTE: Gary Vickrey: Empathic Communication

The most fundamental need of any human being is to be heard and understood. The problem is most of us have never truly been taught how to listen. In fact, we have been taught to not listen to others. We listen with an agenda. That is, we listen to generate a response, to solve an issue, to have someone leave our office, or a myriad of other reasons. But we need to have a genuine interest in truly hearing what a person is saying and why. In this session we will break down everything we think we know about listening and will learn and practice the art of empathic listening.
